The tallest brick minaret in the world at 73 metres, Qutub Minar was begun in 1192 by Qutb-ud-din Aibak. Its five tapering storeys of fluted red sandstone and marble are covered in intricate Quranic inscriptions, set within a complex of early Indo-Islamic ruins.
